The mission of CESFA is to become the Self-Formation Development Centre in the world. To achieve this ambitious goal we developed a niche strategy with a focus on the most promising research areas, which is in balance with societal needs of the European Union and Lithuania in particular.

The objectives of the Centre are:

Development and enforcement of capacities of the national research and industry potential for Self-Formation applications for integration into the ERA;
Attraction of young, talented researchers from Lithuania and the EU to this promising research area and establishing possibilities for them to work with leading and reputable European and Lithuanian researchers;
Promotion of the Self-Formation concept to the European intelligent materials industry in general and to the PV manufacturing industry in particular, in order to help them to become more competitive.
